What is the age distribution of deaths?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><u>Question:\u00a0<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0So I\u2019ve read that 1\/1000 Americans has died from COVID.\u00a0\u00a0 Can we get a new breakdown of the ages of those that have died?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Answer:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/?CDC_AA_refVal=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cdc.gov%2Fcoronavirus%2F2019-ncov%2Fcases-updates%2Fcases-in-us.html#cases_casesper100klast7days\">CDC<\/a>, as of yesterday a total of\u00a0349,246 individuals have died of COVID in the US.\u00a0 With the overall US population at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/popclock\/\">331 million<\/a>, the estimate you read is correct&#8211; to date, 0.1% or 1 of every 1,000 of us has succumbed\u00a0to COVID.\u00a0 You can find basic demographics related to cases and deaths at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/index.html#demographics\">CDC&#8217;s COVID Data Tracker<\/a>, which I&#8217;ve used to pull the deaths by age data included in <strong>Figure 1<\/strong>\u00a0below.\u00a0 Deaths increase with age; no age group has been spared; deaths among children are rare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: data presented below are for 249K deaths, and are about 6 weeks behind due to reporting lags.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Figure 1.
