{"id":1734,"date":"2021-12-14T08:21:57","date_gmt":"2021-12-14T13:21:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/covidqanda.org\/?p=1734"},"modified":"2021-12-14T08:21:57","modified_gmt":"2021-12-14T13:21:57","slug":"whats-happening-with-seasonal-influenza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/covidqanda.org\/?p=1734","title":{"rendered":"What&#8217;s happening with seasonal influenza?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Question:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0What&#8217;s happening with seasonal influenza?\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Answer:\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>According to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/weekly\/index.htm\">\u00a0CDC&#8217;s latest weekly influenza report<\/a>, flu cases in the US are low but increasing.\u00a0 Most states are experiencing minimal to moderate flu activity with\u00a0the exception of New Mexico, which is experiencing high flu levels (<strong>Figure 1<\/strong>).\u00a0 Current levels of flu activity are higher than this time last year (<strong>Figure 2<\/strong>), which as you may recall,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/covidqanda.org\/?p=995\">was an unusually low flu season<\/a>.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/flu\/weekly\/index.htm\">CDC notes<\/a>\u00a0that &#8220;there are early signs that flu vaccination uptake is down this season compared to last,&#8221; and reminds us &#8220;An annual flu vaccine is the best way to protect against flu and its potentially serious complications. CDC recommends everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Figure 1.
